Contour turn VS Contour turn along operation in CAPSturn

Contour Turn in CAPSturn:

  1. It is commonly used for machining cylindrical stock or when only a single contour needs to be shaped.
  2. In this process, material removal occurs in a single direction, specifically along the diameter.
  3. The end result is a step or contour profile as per the given finishing allowances.
  4. It is particularly useful when a significant amount of material needs to be removed.
  5. Not useful if you have a casting or forging where you want to remove just 2-3 mm material from the profile.

Contour Turn Along Part in CAPSturn:

  1. Contour Turn Along Part is pattern repeat operation where the toolpath traces the profile in both x and z direction.
  2. The toolpath adapts as it moves along different sections, machining varying profiles in different areas of the part.
  3. It is useful when material to be remove is less (casting or forging).
